Trump 2.0 is just 30 days old today, yet it feels like a lifetime – for many. Daily headlines can seem both unsettling and challenging, on many levels. I remind myself that I have no control over what happens, and my best chance at enjoying life is found in the serenity prayer: “God grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, the courage to change the things I can, and the wisdom to know the difference.”
It should be stated, however, that the stock market doesn’t seem to care much about all the jarring news. Tariffs, fantasies of buying Canada, the renaming of the Gulf of America, DOGE dismantling age-old departments and programs, calls to Vladimir Putin in Russia, proposals to take over Gaza….
These things are enough to fill an entire presidency, not to mention a few weeks. But the market is at or near all-time highs and doesn’t seem to mind. I already highlighted last week how Trump’s presidency may be associated with market volatility, but that’s not the case. His first term was very low volatility.
