Last weekend, I was listening to one of my favorite old-time music shows and the songs sounded familiar, so I looked up their play list from January 2024 and – sure enough – they repeated their songs from a year ago, 24 songs in all. No problem there – they were mostly from the 1950s, and history doesn’t change.
I also cover history a lot here, which made me wonder, “Why don’t I just recycle my columns here? I tend to tell similar stories, and history doesn’t change.” Besides, few heed the lessons of history, so we keep on making the same mistakes. I was reminded of this when stocks tanked on January 10th over December’s lofty job figures, just like the S&P fell 3% on January 5, 2024, due to a bogus December 2023 jobs report.
